- Abstract
The informal social control mechanisms contribute largely to the family stability, as it supports the norms and behavioral values within the family, reduce the deviance behavior between the family members due to political, social and economic disturbance in Egypt after two revolutions. The current study aims to: i) identify the reasons leading to the disturbances in the families, ii) investigate informal social control in rural families (through identify the legal, human and spatial contexts and monitor informal social control used in rural families), and iii) investigate factors affecting informal social control mechanisms in the sample of the study. A sample of 162 household bosses had been drawn randomly from El-Mounira village, El-Kharga district in New Valley governorate. Data were through personal interview using questionnaire form during the period from Nov. 2015 to Jan. 2016. Frequencies percentages, average, weighted average, Chi square test were used for data analysis and presentation. Findings revealed that there are six reasons for family disturbances were mainly due to the disagreement between the married couple about family decisions (weighted average = 48% ). Most of the family problems get solved by the married couple without interference (weighted average = 92.6%) in the family at the household (weighted average = 92.2%). Findings also revealed that most of families in the sample (91.7%) use religion recommendations to guidance and the impact the behaviors of family members. On the other hand, results show that “bullying and intimidation” and ”customs and traditions” were placed at the end of mechanisms list used in influence family members (weighted average = 62.9% and 58.3%, respectively. Finally, using Chi square analysis, the study results showed that most of the families' characteristics significantly related with the informal social mechanisms used by rural families to control the behavior of their family members.
