- Abstract
Detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology expended the methods of basin provenance analysis. The provenance distribution in different periods of Early Jurassic and zircon U-Pb geochronology analysis were carried out on the LK-1 borehole of No.5 Lenghu area to improve the study of source to sink system in the northern margin of Qaidam Basin. Results show that the provenance area of No.5 Lenghu develops two main age ranges:250-300Ma and 400-450Ma. The detrital zircon age composition shows that the Early Jurassic was dominated by 400-450Ma,and gradually evolved into the coexistence of 250-300Ma and 400-450Ma in the late stage. Among that, the detrital zircon age of 250-300Ma mainly originated from the Xiaosaishiteng mountains, the age of 400-450Ma mainly came from western Saishiteng mountains and eastern Altyn Tagh mountains. The characteristics of clastic components and heavy mineral assemblages show the mixed sediment features of proximal source and distant source. The Early Jurassic sediments zircon U-Pb age distribution in the No.5 Lenghu area shows that the study area has experienced two-period regional tectonic events:the Early Paleozoic and the Late Paleozoic tectonic events. Those two magmatism and/or metamorphism events are relatively active and provide the majority of zircon for No.5 Lenghu area. The provenance of the Lower Jurassic in No.5 Lenghu area has the characteristics of multi-era and mixed sources.
