- Abstract
The article outlines the four steps needed to prepare postcanine teeth to receive cast gold inlays, including the mesial and distal boxings and the development grooves, reduction of tooth structure, retentive features and circumferrential sleeve. The mesial and distal boxings are carried to buccal and lingual so that the outline form carries the axial margin to an area of immunity. It is said that the reduction of tooth structure can be decreased toward the marginal ridge of the shearing cusps particularly on the buccal. The retentive features offer definite finish lines and insure proper retention. The circumferential sleeve can be done with the use of a small pointed diamond tool and provides accurate impressions of all margins.
