- Authors
Luft, R.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the preventive actions to avoid jaw abnormalities and thumbsucking of infants. It states that since retrognathism is inherent in newborn infants, breastfeeding is important for infants to develop a sucking habit in order to practice his jaw movements, which in turn can prevent early signs of malocclusion in infants. It cites that the reason infants suck their thumbs is because these infants belonged to a population where mothers are required to work and experience emotional stress, which in turn they failed to provide their infants the warmth of breastfeeding.
