- Abstract
This work aims to present and to discuss the data available in Palácio (1984), which lead us to premise Guató as an ergative pattern language even if structural rearrangements occurred and only some signs of this alignment were kept. We contemplate a possible ergative mark matched with agents, but this mark disappeared into changes on Guató language. We suggest that the actual third person mark on transitive verbs could be the ancient morpheme mark of agent on transitive constructions. For this, we considered the survival of this morpheme only on third person, what probably didn't have a phonological form. It led us to an alleged re-analysis of agent mark as a third person mark. Finally, we developed a hypothesis about the actual agreement morpheme of third person on transitive verbs on Guató, which could be cognate of the ergative morpheme presented on Timbíra, Maxakalí, Mebengokré, Panará, and Xavánte.
