- Abstract
Although contact allergy to corticosteroids is quite common and increasing, systemic immediate and accelerated reactions to them are uncommon. Corucosteroids, though known to act effectively against hypersensitivity, may themselves produce such reactions. The most frequently reported problem of an allergic nature due to corticosteroids is delayed hypersensitivity involving the skin, contact dermatitis but immediate reactions, such as generalized cutaneous rash, severe respiratory distress or collapse, may also occur. Although there are no well-known predisposing factors for these immediate reactions, an association with asthma due to aspirin intolerance had been observed. Curiously, the former but not the latter was present in patient.
