- Title
Allergic contact blepharoconjunctivitis caused by phenylephrine eyedrops.
- Abstract
The most frequent side-effects of phenylephrine eyedrops are blurred vision, burning or stinging, lacrimation, conjunctival irritation, liberation of iris pigment into the anterior chamber and corneal edema. Systemic reactions, mainly hypertensive crises are much less frequent. Exceptionally, allergic contact dermatis has been reported. This may result from additives like radium metabisulfite, benzalkonium chloride, tetracaine, echothiophate iodide, as well as from phenylephrine itself.
