- Title
Circulating endothelial progenitor cells in ANCA-associated vasculitis: the light at the end of the tunnel?
- Authors
SANTANA, ALFREDO N. C.
- Abstract
The author examines whether the low number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) leads to an increased propensity for early relapse of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated vasculities (AAV). He points out the potential of increasing EPC levels in AAV to address chronic morbidity, thromboembolic events, and treatment resistance. He mentions that an EPC level increase may also result to improvements of cardiovascular outcome.
