- Abstract
The article discusses the feeding and digestion in harvester ant, Veromessor pergandei, and montane ant, Manica. It states that after man, ants have the most intricate social organization, their food habits are among the most varied in the animal kingdom and together with rodents, they pose the greatest potential threat to the hegemony of man on earth. It relates that except for foraging and the removal of sand and waste from the nest, Veromessor pergandei live entirely underground in their extensive nests. It was found out that every day, the direction of the food-gathering column of these harvester ants workers was shifted clockwise on about 15°.
