- Title
Biological Control.
- Abstract
The article reports that the sterile male technique has been used to kill fruit flies on the island of Capri in Italy. These flies usually damage various fruit crops on the island. According to David Nadel of the International Atomic Energy Agency, an experiment to disburse irradiated sterile male fruit flies to mate with native female flies has resulted in the eradication of the insects. The males used in the experiment were reared in various laboratories. The insects can also be killed by genetically incompatible mating.
