- Abstract
The article discusses sexual morality and discussions about love in China during the 1920s and the role that magazine editor Zhang Xichen played in the resulting debates. The influence that the May Fourth movement had on the transition of social mores in China led to an increase in the popularity of ideas like eugenics, Chinese nationalism, and socialism. Zhang Xichen was the editor of "The Ladies' Journal" and "The New Woman," during the 1920s. It is possible, by analyzing the content of these journals to see the multiple discourses around the debate over changes in sexual ethics.
