Patients Satisfaction with Self-Perceived Dental Appearance and Esthetic Dental Treatment Parameters in Qassim Province, Saudi Arabia.

- Abstract
Purpose: To determine factors influencing patients' satisfaction with their dental appearance and evaluate the received dental treatment and patients desire to improve dental aesthetics. Materials and Methods: This is a cross sectional study, conducted among 400 participants in Qassim province. The age range of the participants are > 18 years old. The questionnaires were distributed in selective health care centers and hospitals in Qassim province. Results: 46.8 percent of subjects were overall satisfied with their dental appearance and 53.2 percent were dissatisfied. The highest percentage of dissatisfaction was, tooth color (72.9%) followed by dental decay in front teeth (33.2%), crowding / poor alignment (32.2%), protruding (24.3%), fracture (21%) and non-esthetic restoration (17.9%). In addition, some patients reported that they hide their teeth while smiling (21.5%). 45% of the participants were required general improvement in their teeth appearance. Most subjects were interested in teeth whitening (85.7%). No significant differences between the level of satisfaction and the different age groups, gender, education, habits and oral hygiene aids used excepts for dental floss which showed a significance difference at p < 0.05. Conclusions: 183 of subjects were satisfied overall with their dental appearance while 208 were dissatisfied. This results revealed, highest percent of dissatisfaction was with tooth color (72.9%).
