- Abstract
The article presents guidelines from the Polish Society of Gynecologists and Obstetricians on the obstetric care of women with obesity. It discusses the high prevalence of obesity in pregnancy and the associated complications for both the mother and the child. The article emphasizes the importance of pre-conception care, weight reduction, and specialized healthcare centers for obese mothers. It provides recommendations for supplementation, dietary guidelines, physical activity, and monitoring during pregnancy. The article also discusses the management of gestational hyperglycemia, hypertension, and preeclampsia in obese pregnant women. It highlights the use of medications such as acetylsalicylic acid and low-molecular-weight heparins to reduce risks. The article provides recommendations for postpartum care, including thromboprophylaxis, wound care, and lactation support. Long-term recommendations include weight management, contraceptive counseling, and screening for postpartum depression and anxiety.
