- Title
Effect of variation in the anatomy of the pelvi-calyceal system on the success of percutaneous nephrolithotomy--A step ahead.
- Authors
Mandal, Swarnendu
- Abstract
The author comments on a study by M. Binbay and colleagues, which showed that percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has a considerably similar success rate for the four types of pelvi-calyceal system (PCS), and was affected only by PCS surface area (PCS-SA). He comments that a complete knowledge of PCS anatomy is essential to perform PCNL, and opines that infundibular length (IL) and infundibular width (IW) did not affect PCNL success rate in the study because of the methods of measurement used.
