- Abstract
In an article published in Advanced Functional Materials, researchers explore a potential method for enhancing cancer therapy through the use of Mito-Biomimetic Lipid Nanocarriers. The study demonstrates that when these liposomes, loaded with cytochrome C and lonidamine, are introduced into breast cancer cells, they release cytochrome C, which then binds with Apaf-1 protein and assembles into apoptosomes. This process is hindered by high intracellular ATP levels, but the addition of the glycolysis inhibitor lonidamine reduces ATP, sensitizing cytochrome C-induced apoptosome assembly and promoting apoptosis. This research offers insights into potential strategies for improving cancer treatment.
