- Abstract
This study aims to assess the benefit and harm of using a hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) in chronic ulcers. It was concluded that the study found no evidence of lower amputation rate but improves wound healing in the short term (<6 months). The articles have appropriate inclusion criteria. There is probably information bias, since only included studies of electronic databases and manual resources but not articles not yet published. And we obtained that the effect of HBOT in reducing the rate of minor amputations was a RR of 0.76 (95% CI: 0.19 - 3.10); and to major amputations the RR was 0.36 (95% CI: 0.11 - 1.18). As we see these results confirm there is no evidence that HBOT helps reduce the rate of both major and minor amputations.
