- Abstract
The article focuses on a study conducted to determine the relationship between smoking cessation and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and weight gain after smoking cessation. Community-based cohort analysis is performed using data obtained from the Framingham Heart Study organization's Framingham Offspring Study. CVD events after four year interval starting from 1984 onwards on with volunteers grouped as smoker, recent quitter, long time quitter and nonsmoker. Pooled Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate relationship between smoking and 6-year CVD events. The results obtained showed that smoking cessation was associated with lower risk of CVD events among participants without diabetes and weight gain after cessation had no affect in the risks.
