- Abstract
A recent study compared two different immunoassays for measuring Aβ42/40 ratios in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood plasma as biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD). The study found that the Aβ1–42/1–40 ratio performed better in plasma, while the diagnostic performance of the CSF Aβ1–42/1–40 ratio was similar to that of the CSF AβX–42/X–40 ratio. This finding supports a previous study that also found plasma Aβ1–42/1–40 to be a better biomarker for AD than AβX–42/X–40. The difference in performance may be due to the presence of different Aβ pools in blood and CSF.
