- Abstract
The article reports on the relocation of the controversial billion dollar chemical plant away from the Xiamen seaport in southeast China. The relocation was due to the decision from the environmental and democratic movement based from the released environmental-impact assessment of the project during a public hearing. Furthermore, the move to relocate was strongly supported by Zhao Yufen, a researcher at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Xiamen University wherein he led a petition to the Beijing parliament stating that the plant must be relocated away from residential areas due to health and environmental reasons.
