- Abstract
Finney and others have suggested that certain selection schemes are optimum under a wide range of conditions. They based this suggestion on selection from a normal distribution. The robustness of their optimum scheme to departures from normality is studied in this paper. Selection is performed on both bimodal and unimodal parent populations. Aspects of screening studied include the location of maximum gain, the effect on maximum gain of the number of stages, the use of information from previous stages, the proportion of varieties selected and the amount of experimental material used.
