The present study encompasses the line fishing methods practiced in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Pole and line was locally known as Garkati. Its main line was made up of PA monofilament of 0.23 to 1 mm diameter and length of 6 to 15 m. Line was attached to 0.90 to 1.90 m length and 50 to 78 mm diameter pole. Based on the type and size of target species 6 to 13 number 'J' shaped and Kirby bent barbed hooks were used. In Ratnagiri, long line popularly known as Vahool was operated from small non mechanized fishing boat at a depth of 0.76 to 5.40 m. Long line consisted of main of length varying from 126.94 to 363.93 m and made up of PP multifilament having 2 to 4 mm diameter. One unit of long line had 120 to 200 branch lines of PA monofilament having 1 or 1.5 mm twine diameter of 0.20 to 0.40 m length.
