- Abstract
Studies the behavioral responses of Sotalia Fluviatilis to acoustic pingers in Fortaleza, Brazil. Tests conducted on acoustic pingers in various countries as a means to reduce bycatch of small cetaceans; Behavioral reactions of cetaceans to noise; Early demonstrations of pinger effectiveness in Newfoundland, Canada, indicating substantial differences in bycatch of harbor porpoises between control and experimental nets; Fright reaction caused by the pingers, affecting dolphin respiration rate.
