Geospatial Technology for Forest Resources Management.
- Authors
Kushwaha, S. P. S.
- Abstract
This article describes the utilization of geospatial technology, remote sensing, geographic information systems, Global Positioning System, and artificial satellites for forest resources planning and management. The India forestry industry benefited from these technologies in terms of forest cover mapping, wildlife habitat evaluation, environmental impact assessment, growing stock/timber volume assessment, grassland mapping, encroachment detection, and forest development planning. Future geospatial applications include biogeochemical cycling, greenhouse gas emission and global warming, and productivity/carbon sequestration.
