- Abstract
In this article we analyze the agrarian conflicts between peasants and farmers in the south and southeast of Estado do Pará in the context of military-civilian dictatorship and the early years of the New Republic. During this period, the problem of struggle over land ownership can not be understood solely as a place of confrontation between farmers and peasants, but should be understood as space that involved a multiplicity of actors, especially the sectors of the Catholic Church related to Theology Liberation; Brazilian state institutions such as the Institute for Colonization and Agrarian Reform (INCRA), the Military Police, Civil Police, the Federal Police, Judges; and gunmen and private militias.
