- Title
Editorial: Over-the-Counter Oral Contraceptives -- An Immodest Proposal?
- Authors
Grimes, David A.
- Abstract
The article comments on the impact of medical requirements for oral contraceptives on contraception and preventive services for women in the U.S. It examines whether oral contraceptives are dangerous to be made available over the counter. It discusses the link of oral contraception, family planning clinics and screening tests. It also explores whether the economic survival of family planning clinics in the U.S. depends on the distribution of pills. It concludes that requiring a prescription for oral contraceptives may be counterproductive both medically and socially.
