- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of academic freedom at institutions of higher education throughout the southern states of the U.S. between 1955 and 1965. The author discusses how McCarthyism and anticommunist sentiments impacted U.S. schools, explores the anticommunism and segregation that took place at the University of Arkansas, and examines the censures organized by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
