- Abstract
The article describes the first reported case of a post-traumatic infestation of a horse with W magnifica larvae in Greece. A heavy burden of parasites may produce effects including irritation, discomfort and pruritis resulting in reduced feeding, weight loss and loss of general condition. The cases indicates that myiasis can occur as a post-traumatic complication in horses. W magnifica is then considered among the potential agents of traumatic myiasis of horses. The horse's environment should also be controlled by the use of a fly-proof mesh at the door and windows of the stable and by regular spraying with prescribed insecticides.
