- Title
Kidney allocation: where utility and fairness meet.
- Authors
de Fijter, Johan W.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the fairness in the allocation of kidneys that are needed in transplantation as a treatment option for end-stage renal disease. He mentions that there is an increasing disparity in the supply of donor organs as the number of patients in the waiting lists also increases. The author discusses the Eurotransplant kidney allocation system wherein each patient were given a transparent point score based on human leucocyte antigen (HLA) matching.
