- Abstract
Ultrasound technician training and certification conference was conducted in August 2021. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, 59 participants were attend the meeting less than last five years, and 31 of them took the written test and scanned pigs using A mode and B mode ultrasound. A mode was scanned backfat (BF) and the loin depth (LD) of 30 pigs, whereas B mode was scanned BF and loin eye area (LMA) of 20 pigs. After slaughtering, the composition traits were measured. The criteria used to qualify an ultrasound technician are correlation between live and carcass measured composition traits (0.80); repeatability (0.80), and correlation among operators (0.80). While scanning BF, one A mode operator was qualified for A class, four and four B mode operators were qualified for certification of A and B classes. In LMA, one operators were qualified for certification of B classes. In last ten year, pass rate of A mode in BF was from 17.4 to 54.8% and only 4 participants passed in loin depth; B mode in BF and LMA were from 60 to 95.2% and 0 to 34.8%, repeatability. To improve accuracy, more training is required for measuring LD and LMA. Development and validation of new indicators for evaluating ultrasound technicians is required.
