- Abstract
The article presents an assessment of cyproterone acetate and ethinyloestradiol and lynoestrenol in the treatment of idiopathic hirsutism. Twenty hirsute patients between the ages of 73 and 46 years were included in the investigation after initial clinical and biochemical screening Hair growth was recorded by measurement using a pocket microscope fitted with graticule scales. Hair was collected by shaving a predetermined area after 7 days of hair growth. Plasma testosterone and androstenedione were estimated by radio-immunoassay and individual urinary steroids by gas-liquid chromatography. The administration of cyproterone acetate appears to be effective in the treatment of male-distribution secondary sexual hair in females.
