- Abstract
The article discusses the Irish Land War from 1879 to 1882, with a particular focus on the relief given to the poor by the Irish nationalists and the political power they attained from it. The role that poor relief played in securing support for the anti-landlord movement from Ireland's destitute class is discussed. An overview of the Irish Land League, including its supplying of poor relief, is provided. The relationship between Irish landlords and their failure to provide welfare to the poor is discussed.
