- Abstract
The article discusses religious freedom concerns voiced by the organization known as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) during the 2012 U.S. presidential election. The article discusses the political significance of public statements and the publication of a document entitled "Fortnight of Freedom" by the USCCB upon the 2012 U.S. presidential election. The article examines the group's opposition to particular provisions of the legislation known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) championed by the administration of U.S. president Barack Obama, particularly U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandates concerning requirements of employers providing health care plans that include female sterilization services and contraception such as abortifacients.
