Communicating Change Across Borders and Cultures: Networks, Enthymemes, and Global Audiences.
- Authors
Gerber, Matthew G.; Cook, John
- Abstract
The world is changing and evolving rapidly, and the perpetual march of technological progress has allowed for the burgeoning proliferation of communication between people of different countries and cultures; untethered communication with little regard for borders. Our understanding of the implications of these changes can be enriched and expanded by examining specific instances of cross-cultural rhetorical events and exchanges through the lenses of both network theory and enthymeme. Specifically, this essay will analyze the discursive milieu surrounding the Tunisian 'Arab Spring' movements of 2011, with special focus on the argumentative meanings associated with publication of the iconic 'Baguette Man' photograph.
