- Abstract
The authors reflect on the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) declaration that rinderpest had been eradicated globally. They point out how the declaration creates a landmark in veterinary history because of its benefits that surpass any other agricultural development program. They call attention to a related morbillivirus disease, peste des petits ruminants (PPR) or goat plague, that could also be eliminated as a result of the successful eradication of rinderpest.
