- Title
Mapping brain networks: Fish-bowl neuroscience.
- Authors
Hughes, Virginia
- Abstract
The article discusses a study by neuroscientist Florian Engert and his colleagues, by using larval zebrafish Danio rerio, to examine how neurons in the brain absorb information from the outside world and generate responses. In the first zebrafish paper, neurobiologist Joseph Fetcho and his colleague Donald O'Malley tracked the activity of motor neurons during a predator-escape reflex using the calcium-sensitive green dye, and showed that neurons encode how the fish escapes from a predator.
