- Authors
Engelen, Ute
- Abstract
The article discusses the development challenges of the automobile industry in the 1970s. The author focuses on two manufacturers, Volkswagen and Peugeot, and lists problems that arose during that decade such as the oil crises in 1973 and 1979 and internal crises in the companies. In the 1960s those two companies changed their social policies and lowered the social benefits for their employees. A list of the cost cuts in the social domain is presented, as well as social initiatives that developed as a result.
