The International Journal of Language Studies has released a special issue on Metaphor in Contemporary Communication, which explores the use of metaphors in various forms of communication. The issue includes papers presented at a conference on the topic and covers a wide range of contexts, genres, and domains. It addresses the challenges of translating metaphors and examines the cognitive and cultural aspects of interpretation. The article discusses the use of metaphors in different areas of civil life, such as press discourse, scientific discourse, audiovisual materials, and civil commitment. It also highlights the power of metaphors used by an investigative journalist during the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, the article emphasizes the extensive use of metaphors in discourse and their function in shaping our understanding of various subjects.
