- Abstract
With the growing trend of saving natural dentition, retaining even half of a multi-rooted tooth can act as a suitable alternative to extraction. This case report describes a root resection and restoration of a mandibular first molar using an inlay supported fixed movable prosthesis. This involves a combined endodontic, restorative and periodontal approach The mesial half of the tooth served as the abutment for the prosthesis. Distal abutment was prepared for an inlay instead of a full crown so as to conserve the tooth structure. A fixed-movable type of prosthesis was fabricated where a distal extension from the crown of mesial abutment could fit into a groove prepared in the inlay of the distal abutment.. Root resection is a technique sensitive procedure but correct diagnosis, proper selection of patients with good oral hygiene and careful surgical and restorative treatment will result in good prognosis. Hence, this treatment modality must be discussed with the patient while discussing the treatment options.
