- Abstract
Objective: This study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of spinal mouse (SM) device evaluating spinal mobility external and non-invasively in healthy older adults. Methods: In uprigth position, the thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis curvatures of the cases were assessed both with the SM device and radiologically by the Cobb angle method. The assesment were made by three different researchers with SM device. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and standard errors of measurement (SEM) were used to investigate intrarater and interrater validity and reliability. Results: Fourty-six older adult individuals (29 females, 17 males) with a mean age of 68,12 ± 2,67 years were included in the study. The interrater ICC ranged from 0.80 to 0.89, and intrarater ICC ranged from 0.88 to 0.91 were found. The SEM value was detected to be between 2,01° and 4,26° in all measurements with SM. In addition, significant correlation was found between the spinal curvature degrees measured by all researchers with SM and the radiologically measured spinal curvature degrees (p<0.05). Conclusion: The SM device is considered to be a reliable, valid, safe, quick method that can be used in the clinics and researches of the older adults with no side effects.
