- Abstract
The compound (pyrimidine-2-thionato)triphenyltin(IV) was synthesized and studied in the solid state with spectroscopic (IR and Mossbauer) and X-ray diffraction methods. The compound is monoclinic, space group ? 2i/c, a = 8.715(2) Å , b = 35.925(13) Å , c = 6.603(1), β = 100.07(2)°. The spectroscopic techniques indicate a metal tetrahedral coordination with the pyrimidine-2-thionato ligand bonding through the S atom. The crystallographic study shows three C atoms and one S atom bound to tin and one S atom of the pyrimidine-2-thionato ligand weakly coordinated to the metal. The Sn-S bond distance, 2.442(3) Å , is one of the longest in Ph3Sn"S" compounds.
