- Abstract
Advances in early diagnosis and new antitumor therapies have resulted in greater survival for patients diagnosed with cancer, but cardiovascular side effects remain one of the greatest complications of antineoplastic therapies. Additionally, cancer patients may have prior cardiovascular disease, which is aggravated by tumor growth or by antitumor drugs. The nurse plays a fundamental role in the prevention of cardiotoxicity, with cost-effective strategies: the identification, control and strict monitoring of cardiovascular risk factors before, during and even after the termination of treatment and the promotion of a healthy-heart lifestyle.
