- Abstract
This document provides a summary of recent articles from the Annals of Internal Medicine. One study examined the risk of developing hyponatremia (low sodium levels) in patients prescribed thiazide diuretics compared to other antihypertensive medications. The study found that patients on thiazide diuretics had a higher incidence of hyponatremia, especially in the first 90 days of treatment. Another study explored the outcomes of patients admitted to acute hospital care at home programs, finding that these patients had low rates of mortality, escalation of care, discharge to nursing facilities, and readmission. Lastly, a cross-sectional study investigated assessment bias against racial and ethnic minority internal medicine residents, finding a decrease in bias after the adoption of a milestone-based ratings system. These articles provide valuable insights for hospitalists and highlight the need for further research and efforts to mitigate bias in medical education.
