- Abstract
This document is a reply to a letter to the editor regarding a study on the utilization of postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) in patients with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). The authors acknowledge the limitations of their single-institution study and the challenges of conducting research on rare malignancies like MTC. They also discuss the evolving treatment landscape for advanced MTC, including the emergence of targeted therapies. The authors argue for a more selective use of PORT based on the rarity of cases where it is necessary and the potential toxicities associated with radiation therapy. They believe that their findings will inform future guidelines on the use of PORT in locoregionally advanced MTC.
