- Abstract
The article discusses a new imaging technique called TempoSTEM, which combines event-counting hardware with fast electrostatic dose-modulators to create real-time "event responsive" imaging. Unlike classical STEM imaging, TempoSTEM measures the varying time needed for the image signal to reach a fixed number of events in each pixel location. This technique reduces dose and sample damage by blanking the beam once the threshold is met. The article also presents a method to iteratively update noisy high-variance pixels to improve resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), as well as the option to stack multiple frames to increase SNR. The proposed multi-frame TempoSTEM implementation achieves a dose saving of around 2x and maximizes the information from each electron.
