- Abstract
The article analyzes the technical and environmental feasibility of cement mortars made with mixed recycled aggregate. It highlights that the construction industry is responsible for the extraction of natural resources, generation of solid waste, and CO2 emissions. It is mentioned that in the European Union, around 820 million tons of construction and demolition waste are produced. The study evaluates the effect of substituting natural aggregate with recycled aggregate on the mechanical properties and shrinkage of mortars, as well as the carbon footprint generated during the waste treatment process. The results suggest that mixed recycled aggregate can be a sustainable alternative for use as a construction material, in line with the guidelines of the European Green Deal.
