- Title
Milton's Greek Epigram.
- Authors
Hale, John K.
- Abstract
This article shares the author's thoughts on John Milton's solitary Greek epigram. It is said that Milton's epigram was composed so that William Marshall, having perpetrated the bad engraving of the poet for the title page of "Poems" should engrave also a condemnation of his own workmanship, immediately underneath it. The epigram is written in Greek in order that Marshall would inscribe the words all unsuspectingly while the more erudite reader could enjoy Milton's practical joke.
