- Title
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Oral Oncology Drugs: Another Example of Maslow's Hammer.
- Authors
Ratain, Mark J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the potential use of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) for oral oncology drugs. TDM is a strategy that can be used to optimize drug dosing, but its usefulness and potential harm in the context of oral oncology drugs are uncertain. The article argues that individualizing dosing for these drugs is premature due to the lack of randomized dose-ranging trials. The authors propose criteria for identifying drugs that may be suitable for TDM, but the article raises concerns about the reliability of exposure-response analyses and the potential dangers of TDM in certain cases. Overall, the article suggests that the promotion of TDM for oral oncology drugs is premature and not supported by current evidence.
