- Title
Invited Perspective: PFAS Effects on Brain Development-Are Microglia the Missing Link?
- Authors
Plunk, Elizabeth C.; Majewska, Ania K.
- Abstract
The authors comment on a study published within the issue which evaluated the neural regulation and microglial responses to brain injury in larval zebrafish exposed to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Cited are the effects of developmental perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctance sulfonic acid (PFOS) exposures on the function of microglia, the findings of the examination of the brain's innate immune system, and the rich interplay between different brain cell types.
