- Abstract
The article discusses studies conducted in South Asia indicating that a diet rich in micronutrients may mitigate premalignant dermatological lesions associated with drinking water that contains arsenic. Using baseline data from the Health Effects of Arsenic Longitudinal Study (HEALS), the research focused on the daily diet of Bangladesh residents, looking specifically at intake of the antioxidant vitamins as well as B group vitamins. Research found that ingestion of the vitamins B1, B6 and B9, as well as vitamins A, C and E, greatly reduced the risk of developing lesions caused by arsenic.
