DEATRICK, KRISTOPHER B.; WAKEFIELD, THOMAS W.; HENKE, PETER K.
- Abstract
The author examines the existing methods in managing varicose vein (VV) disease. Factors that play a role in the development of VV are cited including venous hypertension, valvular incompetence and genetic predisposition. Conservative management and compression are recommended for patients in the early stages of venous disease. Operative procedures for VV disease include endovenous ablation of the great saphenous vein, subfascial endoscopic perforator surgery and sclerotherapy.
